Church in the Woods

The air barely moves

I sit in contemplation and prayer

While the waking of the morning

Initiates the introit

The sounds of water

Join the orchestral bouquet

Waves playing in the sea caves

A Soft mallet on the tympani

The rustling of leaves

Creates a background

Of hush and serenity

While the birds begin their warm up

The candles are lit

As the palest of yellow

Ignites the tops of the trees

Who stand in dark shadows

Blue sky emerges

Parting the clouds

I know what lies behind

That misty cape

The earth begins to sing

Grasses dance

Unseen life stirs

There is movement in the woods

The stain glass mosaic

Of the canopy of trees

Lights up all around me

As the sun moves west

Small birds join the choir

While the seagulls

Pull the bow on their violins

And Eagles demand their place

The holiest of moments

The unpeeling of the day

And I worship at the joy

Of noticing and being part of the choir
