Are you willing to live

As part of the seasons

Not just observing from the green chair in the library

But really be willing to

Stand rooted still

Submitting only slightly

To winds carried harshly

On waves of cold

To be plain, and naked in the company of

Purple Asters

Black Eyed Susans

And Lavender Sage

Stripped of your fiery red frock

From long-ago September festivities

Now brown and curled and shredded

Scattered at your feet on fading grass

To silently wait and renew

Cherishing waning light, slower growth

Your grizzled bark, lined and tough

The only familiar thing about you

Are you willing to join the circle of life

A dwelling in this season

To assume your holy station

Amidst it all?

A beautiful and hopeful message, so needed today, a grey November day, a forlorn day after November 5. thank you.
